Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, Jasmine Pennix, 39, a teacher's aide at Bay View High School was charged with one felony count of child abuse-intentionally causing harm for scuffling with a 14-year-old student on Wednesday. A hold was placed on Pennix and remains in custody at the Milwaukee County jail without bail. If convicted, Pennix is facing 6 years in prison and $10,000 in fines.
Last Wednesday, Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) first broke the story shortly after a classroom cellphone video surfaced in social media showing Pennix scuffling with a 14-year-old student in a Bay View High School classroom. Administrators for the Milwaukee Public Schools District (MPS) were made aware of the video on social media (Facebook) and notified police. Hours later, Pennix was taken into custody and the student involved was taken to a local hospital for treatment.
The 14-year-old student apparently kicked Pennix first and was acting recklessly in the classroom. The student had been recently arrested by police for an attempted carjacking and was on an electronic monitoring device for an armed robbery.
The student involved in the incident is facing disciplinary action by MPS.
