Puerto Rico - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has yet to file a fraud indictment against Alexandra Aponte Lúgaro, 33, after the feds raided a family run company for alleged fraud of educational funds for tutorial classes. Lúgaro claims that no fraud has been committed and the company followed the law regarding educational funds. The FBI has confiscated computers and boxes of documents from Lúgaro's business, but during a press conference she welcomed the investigation and hopes that all other companies that handle educational tutorial funds should also be investigated as well.
Last month, Lúgaro announced her candidacy to run as an Independent for Governor of Puerto Rico in 2016. She attempted to rent 8 different facilities to announce her candidacy, but was denied access by owners. She finally picked a facility at the College for Lawyers for her press conference.
Lúgaro would be the youngest and first women ever to be elected Governor of Puerto Rico. Since her announced candidacy, she has gain wide support throughout the Island and could very well become the next governor.
Lúgaro's campaign is focused on Puerto Rico's economic crisis, a lack of affordable living wage earning jobs, corruption in government and high crime. She opposes Governor Alejandro García Padilla's proposed 16% value added tax (VAT) hike that would replace the 6% sales tax and would eventually cause a financial burden for small and struggling business owners. Puerto Rico is facing more than $70B budget deficit and Lúgaro is proposing to spend less in order to deal with the fiscal deficit.
Lúgaro has alleged abuse of authority by the current Padilla administration. Puerto Rico is facing a shortage of food supplies at local food market stores.
She is confident that she will be exonerated from any alleged fraud accusations.
