Milwaukee, WI - On early Friday, both Matthew Sleider, 23, of Wauwatosa and Brandon Bell, 22, of Milwaukee were arrested for multiple charges after they were pulled over on a routine traffic stop by Milwaukee County Deputy Sheriff Doug Burmeister. Deputy Burmeister, a 17-year veteran in the sheriff's department stopped a vehicle around 2:22 a.m. on Friday heading westbound on I-94 near the S. 27th St. exit that Sleider was driving.
Upon close inspection, Burmeister smelled a strong odor of alcohol coming from the driver's side and ordered Sleider to exit the vehicle for a field sobriety test. While Deputy Burmeister was conducting the sobriety test, Bell, the passenger of the vehicle got out and attacked Burmeister from behind. Burmeister was able to use his taser on Bell and then placed him under arrest.
Another deputy arrived at the scene and attempted to place Sleider under arrest for driving intoxicated, but Sleider resisted and had to be pepper sprayed by the deputy before being taken into custody.
Deputy Burmeister suffered cuts, bruises and swelling to his face and head from Bell's assault. Burmeister was treated for his injuries at a local hospital and released.
Bell is facing charges for felony battery to an officer, resisting arrest and obstructing an officer. Sleider is also facing charges for felony parole and probation violation, resisting and obstructing an officer and operating a vehicle while intoxicated, according to the initial criminal complaint.
