Mexico - On Monday, the administrator of Narco Trafico en Mexico dot blogspot dot com reported that their Facebook page had been censored and shutdown over the weekend. Narco Trafico Facebook apparently couldn't log in or post any news reports coming out of Mexico concerning homicides, drug trafficking, drug cartel busts, Mexican government and police corruption and other related articles.
Narco Trafico is an alternative news source for Mexican nationals, general public and the government. News articles and photos appear without by lines to protect the reporters and were published by national and local newspapers in Mexico.
The Narco Trafico administrator wrote that they have set up another Facebook page to continue with their reporting citing freedom of the press and expression on the social network. Facebook administrators have not commented on the censor.
Have major drug cartels paid off Facebook to censor Narco Trafico's reporting on their illegal activities or is it just Facebook regulating content for its social network?
