Kenosha, Wisconsin - On Friday, March 4, 2022, 37-year-old off-duty Kenosha Police Officer Shawn Guetschow working security at the Lincoln Middle School in the Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) was video recorded (cellphone) by a student when he intervened in a fight between students and the cop managed to restrained one of the students and was video recorded while he also placed his knee on the alleged unidentified 6th grader's neck. A video still image of the incident where the cop is captured with his knee on the student's neck circulated on social media.

The Kenosha Police Department (KPD) is now investigating the incident and says Kenosha cops are permitted to work security with the KUSD, while they are on off-duty.

The KPD in a press release says, "K.P.D. has watched the video clip and has seen the photo which has been widely shared on social media over the weekend. We are keenly aware of the significant sensitivity surrounding the photo. K.P.D., together with K.U.S.D. is investigating the incident in its entirety while being cautious not to make conclusions based off of a small piece of information shared on social media. Both agencies will look to our respective policies and procedures for guidance in this circumstance."

Update: The Kenosha Unified School District (KUSD) in Wisconsin announced that off-duty Kenosha Police Officer Shawn Guetschow working as school security at Lincoln Middle School resigned as of Tuesday, March 16, 2022. Since the school cafeteria incident involving a 6th grader can lead to litigation, the KUSD will provide no further details in this incident.
