24-year-old Melvin Casiano-Nazario Charged With 1st-degree Reckless Homicide For The Death Of Christian Roldán-Acevedo, 28, In The Southside Of Milwaukee

Casiano-Nazario confessed to police that he fatally shot Roldán-Acevedo in the back of the head as he exited a gas station in self-defense.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Friday, Melvin M. Casiano-Nazario, 24, was charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide with use of a dangerous weapon for the March 17, 2022 murder of Christian Roldán-Acevedo, 28, while exiting the Mian's Oil Corporation gas station convenience store.

On Monday, Casiano-Nazario appeared in a virtual Milwaukee County court conference hearing to face a homicide charge and bail hearing.

If convicted, Casiano-Nazario if facing up to 60 years in prison with an additional 5 years for use of a dangerous weapon. A $100,000 cash bond was set for Casiano-Nazario.

Casiano-Nazario is scheduled for a preliminary court hearing on March 31, 2022.

Apparently, both Roldán-Acevedo and Casiano-Nazario knew each other and are friends in Facebook (FB), according to their FB accounts.

According to the criminal complaint, Roldán-Acevedo was fatally shot in the back of the head by Casiano-Nazario as he exited the gas station convenience store. A video surveillance camera inside the convenience store at the Mian's Oil Corporation gas station at the 1400 block of W. Muskego Ave. and W. Greenfield Ave. in the Southside of Milwaukee recorded the altercation between Roldán-Acevedo and Casiano-Nazario. The video showed that Roldán-Acevedo walked into the store and was at the counter paying for items and then Casiano-Nazario walked in and was behind Roldán-Acevedo. Then Roldán-Acevedo, the victim turned around and said something to Casiano-Nazario, the suspect, which the victim then struck Casiano-Nazario multiple times with a beverage can and also struck the suspect multiple times with his fists. At the time of the altercation, Casiano-Nazario reach inside a shoulder pouch and took out a handgun. As Roldán-Acevedo exited the gas station convenience store, Casiano-Nazario shot him in the back of the head and the victim dropped to the ground from the impact of the bullet and began to bleed out. 

Casiano-Nazario then walked by and fled from the scene. He was later arrested by police. Casiano-Nazario told police that he shot Roldán-Acevedo in self-defense, but video recovered from the gas station shows that Roldán-Acevedo had nothing in his hands when he was shot from behind as he exited the convenience store.

Roldán-Acevedo is the son of of Julio Roldán Concepción, the current Mayor of Aguadilla in Puerto Rico.
