Milwaukee, WI - On Thursday, the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD) reported that no arrests were made on Wednesday night during a melee by teens at Sherman Park located on N. Sherman Blvd. and W. Burleigh Street in the north side of the city. Police were called to the park around 8:00 p.m. about a disturbance involving dozens of teens. The teens dispersed and about an hour and half later they returned and began to throw bricks and rocks breaking windows at a BP gas station nearby and a Milwaukee County Transit bus had several broken windows including a police vehicle.
Police and Milwaukee County Sheriff deputies responded to the chaotic scene and teens began to throw rocks at police in riot gear. A gas canister was ignited by the teens and thrown inside a garbage can, according to police.
No officers or deputies were reported injured and no arrests were made, despite mainstream media reports that four teens had been arrested. Police suspect the teen melee was planned and organized in social media.
The incident is still under investigation.
