Nigeria - On Tuesday, the names of 180 Nigerian school girls that were abducted by the Boko Haram rebels on April 15 from a remote government school in Chibok, Borno State have been released. The number of school girls had varied, but the Northern States Christian and Elders Forum (NOCSEF) confirmed the total of girls that had been kidnapped. Police had previously reported that 44 had returned, but the school principal confirmed that 55 have returned and accounted for.
Abubakar Shekau, the leader of the extremist Islamic militant terrorists group called the Boko Haram, meaning that "Western education is sinful" had announced in a released video on Monday, that he will sell the girls into marriage or slavery. The Nigerian government has been trying to locate the whereabouts of the Boko Haram terrorist group, but have been unsuccessful.
Nigerian President Goodluck Ebele Azikiwe Jonathan, 56, on Tuesday on national TV announced that the government and security agencies are doing evrything possible to secure the release of the school girls. President Jonathan has asked for the following neighbouring countries, Benin Republic, Chad, Niger and those in the North-African sub-continent to assist in helping to release the girls.
Jonathan's government has offer $300,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and capture of the Boko Haram leader.
The Boko Haram in the last five years have slaughtered hundreds of school children at government schools and massacre thousands of people in remote areas. Since the beginning of the year, more than 1,500 cold blooded murders have been contributed to the Boko Haram.
Parents and family members of the abducted school girls fear that many could be raped or killed by the Boko Haram. The Boko Haram are believed to be hiding in a dense jungle.
President Barack H. Obama has announced that U.S. military advisors have been sent to Nigeria to aid in an attempt to locate the missing school girls. The U.S. State Department has offered $7M for information leading to Shekau's arrest.
The number of girls abducted could be higher, since parents have claimed that at least 234 girls were missing, according to the Nation on line in Nigeria.
