38-year-old Yessenia E. Ruano, An Undocumented MPS Teacher's Aide Self-deported To El Salvador With Her Two U.S. Born Daughters

Ruano, a undocumented Milwaukee Public Schools teacher's aide lost her immigration appeal to continue staying in the U.S. and self-deported to El Salvador with her two daughters.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, Yessenia E. Ruano, 38, originally from El Salvador and a undocumented Milwaukee Public Schools teacher's aide self-deported with her two daughters to El Salvador from the Milwaukee Mitchell International Airport after losing her immigration appeal to stay in the country with the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS). 

Ruano has had a deportation order since, the Biden administration, but had applied for a T-visa and had spent nearly $14,000 in the immigration process. A T-visa is issued to victims of severe human trafficking.

In February 2025, Ruano was allowed additional time to apply for a T-visa.

Ruano has two 9-year-old daughters born in the U.S..

Ruano crossed the U.S. border in 2011 when she was 24 and lived in Jackson, Wisconsin before moving to Milwaukee in 2013.
