Several men were arrested by police for allegedly leaving an unattended loaded handgun, which 5-year-old Elijo found and accidentally shot himself in the head.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, February 21, 2023, Milwaukee police responded around 8:30 p.m. to a reported shooting at the 900 block of S. 29th Street in the Southside of Milwaukee. Police found 5-year-old Elijo Gonzalez who was shot in the head. He was conveyed to Children's Hospital where he was pronounced deceased at 9:11 p.m. by the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office.
Two men ages 35 and 58 were taken into custody by police in connection with the toddler shooting. The men allegedly left the gun unattended and charges are pending.
Police say that Elijo found the unlocked gun and accidentally shot himself in the head. His sister witnessed the shooting incident.
