Vietnam Conflict Army Veteran Victor R. Vela Sr., Known As A Long Time Veteran Rights Advocate From Milwaukee Passed Away

Vela Sr. transcended to eternal rest with full military honors.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - In Memorandum of Victor R. Vela Sr., 78, who passed away peacefully in his sleep on Monday, May 2, 2022 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, according to a family member. Vela Sr. was a member of the Wisconsin GI Forum Color Guard and a parliamentarian in the veteran group. He was also one of the co-founders of the Wisconsin GI Forum in 1982.

Vela Sr. was also an Army veteran and served in the Army's 11th Armored Cavalry Regiment known as the Blackhorse Regiment stationed in South Vietnam during the late 1960's conflict with North Vietnam.

After serving in Vietnam, he became a U.S. Citizen shortly after 1969 and began to advocate for Latino veteran rights in Wisconsin including Milwaukee.

Vela Sr. was originally from Monterrey, Nuevo Leon, Mexico.
