Las Vegas, Nevada - On Saturday, Johnny Canales, 69, a Televisa TV Host for El Show de Johnny y Nora Canales and former Tejano singer was inducted to the Las Vegas Walk of Stars. A sidewalk star recognizing Canales was placed in front of the Paris Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas. Canales and Nora were present for the unveiling of the Johnny Canales by the Las Vegas Walk of Stars organization. At least 50M tourists visit Las Vegas per year.
Canales also attended the two-day Tejano Music National Convention in Las Vegas. Canales was born in Mexico, but a has Tejano roots and is an Army Veteran who served in Vietnam, according to his Facebook account.
Canales began his first half-hour Johnny Canales Show at KRIS TV 6 in 1984 and today he will continue to feature Tejano, Grupero, Banda, Ranchero and Country music at Televisa as well. Canales signed a contract with Televisa back in July to air his show.
In July, Canales was recognized for his contribution to Tejano music and culture by the City of Robstown in Texas with a resolution approved by the City Council and Mayor. Canales grew up in Robstown.
