April Novak Charged With 12 Felony Counts For Sexual Assault Of A Student By School Staff

A former Menomonee Falls High School special teacher has been charged with 12 counts for sexual assault of student.

Menomonee Falls, WI - On Tuesday, April Novak, 30, of Sussex was charged with 12 felony counts for sexual assault of a student by staff. Novak who is married confessed to police that she had a sexual relationship with a student under the age of 18 and that they were in love. A $100,000 cash bail has been set for Novak and if convicted on all counts, she is facing up to six years and $10,000 in fines for each count. Novak is expected back in court for a preliminary hearing in Waukesha County on January 4.
According to the criminal complaint, Novak began a sexual relationship with a 16-year-old student in October 2015 and had multiple sexual contact in a sofa inside the classroom. The classroom sofa was apparently confiscated by police as evidence and for DNA testing.
Novak resigned as a reading specialist teacher shortly after being placed on leave by the school district on December 11, ending the sexual contact in the school.
Novak's husband, Christopher Novak filed for legal separation on Monday, according to Waukesha County court records.
