Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas, Mexico - On early Saturday, the Nuevo Laredo city officials reported that an explosive detonated at 12:30 a.m. near the International Bridge one connecting Laredo, Texas and Nuevo Laredo. Unknown suspects tossed an explosive device outside a night club close to the bridge in Mexico's side. The blast caused northbound traffic to the bridge connecting to the U.S. to stop for about 10 minutes, according to municipal police. Officials haven't released information about anyone being injured and damages caused, if any outside the night club.
The bridge remained opened and the Tamaulipas state Attorney General's Office is investigating to incident.
Twitter users in Nuevo Laredo are claiming, that the city doesn't have a mayor and alleging he is living in the U.S.A. Recently, Mayor Ramón Garza Barrios has made few public appearances and is under heavy security due to the escalated violence in Nuevo Laredo. Barrios has not made an official report about the explosion reported near the International Bridge.
Police were reported at National highway kilometer 24, involved in a check point and were checking traffic going into the city and leaving Nuevo Laredo.
On Friday two hours earlier before the explosion near the bridge, authorities say a number of suspects aboard a vehicle had thrown a grenade in front of the Televisa Network offices in Nuevo Laredo. The explosion shattered windows in front of the Televisa building and several vehicles were reported damaged from the blast. No injuries were reported, according to Eduardo Martínez, Director and Manager of Televisa.
Municipal police and state preventive police blocked the area and continue their investigation. At least three explosions were heard in the Nuevo Laredo downtown area over the weekend.
