Ongoing Hostile Work Environment And Elimination Of Multicultural Student Services At MATC By President Dr. Cruz Having A Negative Impact, According To Group Pushing For Reform

Members of a group that met last week, evaluated the current situation at the Milwaukee Area Technical College and came to the conclusion that a hostile work environment continues to plague the college under MATC President Dr. Cruz and his decision in late August to eliminate the Office of Multicultural Student Services has fueled protests from the Latino/Hispanic, Asian, African-American and Native-American communities.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - A well known community activist and Civil Rights and Immigrant Rights advocate, H. Nelson Goodson who also attended the meeting with a group last week would not go into further details about the ongoing concerns that were discussed, but Goodson did confirmed that the group will continue to address the negative impact that Dr. Cruz with the support of the MATC Board of Trustees support have created. The group is compromised by more than 16 organizations, union members, students from MATC including UW- Milwaukee and community activists who Goodson was not at liberty to name at this time.

Goodson did say that several matters of concern that were discussed had to do with the ongoing hostile work environment at MATC, the elimination of the Office of Multicultural Student Services, the unjustly termination of four student service specialists who have filed job discrimination complaints against MATC with the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development Equal Rights Division. (Video link: https://youtu.be/VyTtNJw0H9s)

Goodson has taken the lead to call for the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) to terminate MATC's President Dr. Anthony Cruz's contract as soon as possible for his erroneous decision to eliminate the Office of Multicultural Student Services at the technical college after MATC had provided more than 50 years of diverse and bilingual student services for enrolled students from the Latino/Hispanic, Asian-American, African-American and Native-American communities. Goodson told Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) that Dr. Cruz's decision to eliminate the Multicultural Student Services at the technical college was a disservice to our communities of color in Milwaukee and replacing it with the Office of Community Impact, which now only offers general services has created a void and a situation where ethnic students are subject to fail when needed personal counseling by peer counselors, bilingual language friendly services are no longer available to them, including other race and cultural orientated support to deal with the constant administrative barriers being practiced to appease Trump's illegal and unconstitutional elimination of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion programs at the college. Today, the MATC administration under Dr. Cruz's are working to eliminate all such diversity programs and etc., which were created by the communities pressure to assure that the program services help students of color succeed at MATC.

To date, Dr. Cruz hasn't done anything in significance in 1 year and 6 months since he was hired in June of 2024, to continue as president at the college and to continue to earn an annual salary of $285,000, including other benefits. So far, Dr. Cruz has at least accomplished one of his goals, and that was to eliminate the Office of Multicultural Student Services and unjustly terminating four student service specialists, according to Goodson.

Editor's note: Dr. Cruz has yet to resolve the ongoing MATC hostile work environmental, the MATC administration retaliation against employees who complain about unfair work practices, job discrimination, a history of lack of full-time job promotions for part-time  instructors, and harassment that employees experience by the Cruz administration and etc..

Also, the alleged corrupt administration leadership at the Human Resources (HR) illegally cut wages from part-time employees without them knowing, which totaled nearly $1M in back wages, the HR was forced to reimburse back wages to the part-time instructors this year.

Hispanic News Network U.S.A. has learned that a major scandal at MATC involving millions of dollars is about to be made public.
