Zafar Zia Facing Extradition From Mexico For Shooting U.S. Consulate Official Christopher Ashcraft

The Mexican federal prosecutor's office confirmed that Zafar Zia or Zia Zafar is facing extradition to the U.S. in connection with the shooting of U.S. Consulate official Christopher Ashcraft on Friday in Guadalajara.

Mexico City, Mexico - On Monday, the Mexican Federal Attorney General's Office (PGRF) confirmed that Zafar Zia, 31, is facing extradition to the U.S. in connection with last Friday's shooting incident of U.S. Consulate official Christopher Ashcraft in Guadalajara. Ashcraft was shot by Zia in the chest while in his vehicle as he exited a parking structure. Ashcraft survived the shooting and the incident was caught on video camera surveillance footage.
Zia, a U.S. Citizen was taken into custody by Mexican police special forces in Guadalajara on Sunday and was turned over to the PGRF for processing and investigation. The FBI had offered $20,000 U.S. dollars reward for any information leading to his arrest.
