FBI Offers $20K Reward For Identity Of Suspect Who Shot U.S. Consulate Official In Guadalajara

Armed suspect followed the U.S. Consulate official inside a garage and then waiting outside to shoot at him as he exited the parking structure.

Guadalajara, Jalisco, Mexico - The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) is offering $20,000 U.S. dollars reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a lone gunman who shot and wounded a U.S. Consulate official Christopher Ashcraft in Guadalajara on Friday afternoon. Video surveillance in the parking structure recorded the suspect following the U.S. official and then waited for him in the exit where the suspect then took out a handgun and shot at the vehicle window the U.S. Consulate official was driving. Once the suspect fired a gunshot, he fled.
The U.S. Consulate official was wounded and is expected to survive. He works in the visa issuing section of the U.S. Consulate in Guadalajara, according to the U.S. State Department.

Update: The Jalisco State Prosecutor's Office confirmed that the suspect, Zafar Zia, 31, a U.S. Citizen sought in connection with shooting of U.S. Consulate official Christopher Ashcraft had been taken into custody by Mexican police special forces on Sunday.
