Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, a 15-year-old juvenile was beaten by Milwaukee Corrections Officer Sanjay T. Adell, 38, who has been taken into custody on a felony assault charge of a juvenile. Adell claimed that the juvenile had taken a threatening position and he reacted by striking the juvenile multiple times. The juvenile's lip, right eye, left side of his face were swollen from the beating and suffered cuts inside his mouth as well.
Upon review of surveillance video at the detention center, the Milwaukee County Sheriff's Office (MCSO) says that the juvenile did not take a threatening position as Adell claimed. Adell was taken into custody on Monday and booked for physical abuse of a child, misconduct in office and a misdemeanor count for weapon possession at a secure facility. Adell has a hold on him and can't be bailed out, according to the MCSO records.
The MCSO reported that a search of Adell's locker inside the secure facility of the children's detention center, a loaded handgun was found in Adell's backpack.
The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office is reviewing Adell's criminal complaint and charges are pending.
Adell was convicted of a misdemeanor charge for operating a vehicle without the owner's consent in 1997.
