Roseburg, Oregon - On Thursday, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) reported that around 10:38 a.m., a 911 emergency call was received of an active shooter at the Umpqua Community College (UCC) campus. The suspect, Chris Harper Mercer, 26, who is a student at UCC was reported killed when he confronted police in an exchange of gun fire.
At least 10 people were reported killed, but the dead toll could rise and more than 7 wounded in the shooting rampage by the crazed religious killer. Apparently, Mercer asked the victims about their religion denomination and then began to kill them.
According to Kortney Moore, 18, she told News-Review that she heard gun shots and then saw her teacher shot in the head at Synder Hall and then Mercer came into her classroom. Mercer ordered everyone on the ground and then asked for the victims to stand up one by one and to state their religion denomination. He just shot at everyone, according to Moore who survived the shooting rampage.
The students, teachers and UCC staff were transported to the Douglas Fairgrounds-Douglas Hall for their safety, according to the DCSO.
Three handguns and a rifle were recovered at the crime scene, according to authorities. Local, County, state and multiple federal law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, ATF and U.S. Marshal's Service responded to the shooting, John Hanlin, the Douglas County Sheriff reported.
The DCSO is investigating whether a posting at a Robot9001 thread on 4chan anonymously discussing a possible shooting and warning people on Wednesday not to attend classes on Thursday is related to the UCC massacre.
