Milwaukee, WI - On Wednesday, Matthew McMillan, 15, of Milwaukee was charged with one felony of 1st-degree reckless homicide for the July 3rd fatal shooting of Tariq Akbar, 14. A $100K bond was set for McMillan and if convicted is facing up to 65 years in prison. He is expected back in court on July 16 for a preliminary hearing.
The criminal complaint states that McMillan confronted a group of 12 teens including Akbar after the U.S. Bank fireworks and then during an altercation, McMillan fired at least 7 to 9 shots striking Akbar in the back of the head. Police recovered 7 spent cartridges from the crime scene.
Police say, McMillan fought with the group over a female on Facebook. Akbar was not the intended target, according to the criminal complaint.
McMillan apparently is a member of the Bang Brothers gang in the Northside, according to witnesses.
