Milwaukee's Southside Cinco de Mayo 2023 Shooter, Deon D. Nabors Sentenced To 8 Years In Prison, Placed On Supervision With 1 Year Huber At HOC

Nabors sentenced to 8 years in prison in connection with the Cinco de Mayo 2023 shooting incident in the Southside of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, Deon D. Nabors, 18, was sentenced to 8 years in prison, with 4 years incarceration and 4 years probation for one felony count of 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety, use of a dangerous weapon, and 6 years in prison with 3 years incarceration and 3 years supervision for one felony  count of sale/possess/use/transport machine guns, which both sentences be served concurrently (at same time) in connection with the Cinco de Mayo 2023 impromptu celebration outdoor shooting in the Southside of Milwaukee at the 1200 block of S. Cesár E. Chávez Drive.

Under a plea agreement, Nabors's sentences were stayed, placed on supervision for 3 years and ordered to do Huber for one year at the Milwaukee County House of Corrections under a work release program. He was also ordered to do 200 hours of community service, according to court records. Under the plea agreement, a misdemeanor charge for possess a dangerous weapon by person under 18 was dismissed.

Last year on May 5th, when Nabors was 17, he fired multiple gunshots at the Cinco de Mayo impromptu outdoor celebration on S. Chávez Drive while running through a liquor store parking lot causing a chaotic scene. A 40-year-old Milwaukee police officer spotted Nabors shooting in the air with an automatic weapon, then putting the gun in his pocket and ordered Nabors to drop the handgun, Nabors failed to comply and the officer shot Nabors. Nabors suffered non-life threatening injuries at the time. No one else was reported injured.

A 22-year-old man from Greenfield connected to a second shooting at the 1200 block of S. 15th Place was not charged after police learned that he shot his weapon in self-defense. A 33-year-old police officer had shot the 22-year-old man who suffered non-life threatening injuries.
