Suspect Arrested After Jumping Out Of Vehicle As It Rolled Down A Sidewalk And Crashed Into Light Pole In Milwaukee's Southside

Driver being pursued by cops jumps out of the moving vehicle as it continued down the sidewalk and then crashing into ligh pole.

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Wednesday, July 27, 2022 at around 7:25 p.m., Raunel Palma, 21, after fleeing from Milwaukee Police Department District 6 Station officers crashed at the 700 block of S. 26 St. and W. Pierce St.. According to witnesses at the scene, Palma was speeding Northbound on S. 26 as police pursued him. He jumped out of the vehicle by the alley and let the Acura rolled through the sidewalk until it struck a bush and then crashed into a light pole.

Police were able to arrest Palma by the alley. Sources say the pursued began in Bay View and police had placed road spikes to stop the vehicle. Palma had other passengers who fled before he was taken into custody and taken to a local hospital for treatment of injuries.

On July 30, 2022, Palma was charged with two felony counts for 2nd-degree recklessly endangering safety with habitual criminality repeater and vehicle operator flee/elude officer with habitual criminality repeater. If convicted, Palma is facing up to 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines for recklessly endangering safety and up to 3 years and 6 months in prison and up to $10,000 in fines for fleeing an officer. Also, an additional 4 years in prison for each enhancer on a felony count for habitual criminality repeater.

Palma was released from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections (DOC) on April 5, 2022 from the Oakhill Correctional Institute. Palma was convicted on April 9, 2021 after pleading guilty to one felony count for possession of a firearm by a felon. He was sentenced to 1 year confinement and 3 years of extended supervision.

In April 26, 2019, Palma was convicted after pleading guilty to one felony count for vehicle operator flee/elude officer causing damage to property. He was sentenced to 12 months in the House of Corrections (HOC), but sentence was stayed. He was ordered to be confined for 60 days at the HOC and received 3 years of probation, according to Wisconsin court records in Milwaukee County.

At around 6:45 p.m. on Wednesday, police officers from District 2 pursued a vehicle from S. 26 St. and W. National Ave. The vehicle is suspected of being used in a robbery and shooting.
