Homicide suspect murdered victim over a name calling and cigarette.

Milwaukee, WI - Philip Echevarria, 23, was charged with one felony count of 1st-degree reckless homicide for the September 21, 2020, homicide at the 3600 block of W. National Avenue. The victim was involved in a verbal argument with Echevarria and another suspect. Echevarria, fired shots subsequently striking the victim. The victim, a 37-year-old man from Milwaukee, sustained fatal injuries. Both suspects, including a 20-year-old man, were arrested a short time after the homicide. A gun was recovered.
If convicted, Echevarria is facing up to 60 years in prison and a $50,000 cash bail was set.
According to the criminal complaint, Echevarria confessed on firing the weapon without realizing that the safety on the trigger was off.
Echevarria and the victim got into a verbal confrontation over the victim calling him a name and a cigarette request by the suspect. Echevarria attempted to scare the victim, but ended up killing him over the dispute.
