Milwaukee, WI - Andrew G. Emer, 73, has been charged with felony hit-and-run causing the death of David R. Montanez, 64, on Tuesday. Milwaukee police arrested Emer for leaving the scene when he struck Montanez around 5:15 p.m. while he walked near W. Rogers St. and W. Layton Blvd. Montanez had just gotten off a Milwaukee County bus and was headed westbound on W. Rogers and Emer was headed northbound when he struck Montanez. Emer fled the scene, but was located nearby after witnesses identified a white van and one of them managed to take a license plate number. Montanez was pronounced dead at a local hospital, according to police.
According to the criminal complaint, Emer after leaving the scene returned and then left again. Emer told police he was going to turn himself in to authorities on Wednesday. The white van was located near Emer's residence.
