MATC Board Chair Erica Case Continues To Ignore The Unjust Elimination Of The Multicultural Affairs Office Affecting Communities Of Color

Case in a response to the Coalition to Reclaim MATC says in an email that the MATC Board of Trustees will not allow any discussion of personal matters concerning MATC personnel at Tuesday's meeting including the 4 student services specialists unjustly fired when the Multicultural Affairs Office was eliminated in mid-August 2025.

October 27, 2025

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Monday, Erica L. Case, the Chairperson of the Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) Board of Trustees responded to a letter by the Coalition to Reclaim MATC in regards to add an agenda item to deal with the elimination of the Multicultural Affairs Office in mid-August 2025 and the unjust termination of 4 student services specialists affecting the Latino/Hispanic community including the African-American, Asian-American and the Native-American communities in the metropolitan area of Milwaukee County.

The Coalition to Reclaim MATC (CRMATC) composed of 15 organizations on October 20, 2025 submitted a letter to the Milwaukee Area Technical College President Dr. Anthony Cruz and the Board of Trustees demanding for the Multicultural Affairs Office and 4 student services specialists that were terminated in mid-August 2025 be reinstated. The CRMATC wrote, "This coalition does not agree that the proposed services to replace the Multicultural Center will adequately serve the needs of the student body. We are calling on MATC to recommit to an improved environment for students and staff of color...Services for multicultural students must be restored to revive the MATC principles for serving the community...There have been previous calls for an audit of MATC HR actions, and we jointly echo that call. Without responsive action, many stakeholders are concerned that they will not be able to recommend MATC as a place for higher education."

In response, Case, the Chairperson of the MATC Board of Trustees responded on Monday, October 2 7, 2025 wrote to the CRMATC, "Your request for an agenda tem to discuss personnel matters is declined. The MATC Board is a policy governance board, not a direct management board, and therefore it is outside of the jurisdiction of the Board to direct individual personnel decisions of College departments. The Board cannot direct MATC's administration to reinstate specific individuals or to provide particular benefits to certain individuals Moreover, personnel decisions are generally confidential in nature and inappropriate for open discussion at board meetings. MATC cannot discuss with third parties matters involving individual personnel."

"Additionally, MATC's administration has the delegated authority to handle requests such as interna audits, which are shared in various ways with the college.

"Given that these requests are not within the purview of the Board, and that such matters are also nappropriate as Board agenda items, this topic will not be added to the October 2025 meeting agenda."

The continued stand by MATC President Dr. Anthony Cruz and the MATC Board to ignore multiple requests by local community members, instructors, students and organizations for transparency and to publicly address the unjust elimination of the Multicultural Affairs Office elimination and the termination of 4 student services specialists has ignited a community at large and a multi-organization campaign to continue to address the matter and a planned peaceful protest to demand reinstatement of the Multicultural Affairs Office student services and the reinstatement of the 4 student services specialists who were unjustly terminated on mid-August.

The MATC administration has had a history of ignoring Latino staff and faculty, and they don't take them into account regarding decisions made that would affect them at any level.

Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) received a copy of a resignation letter by Josephine Gomez, Director of High School Relations, Transfer and Articulation, and International Programs dated Agust 26, 2023, which Gomez claimed she was being mandated to take on a candidate for an open position that she wasn't taken into consideration whether she wanted to participate in that decision. So, she submitted her resignation and did not comply with the MATC's administration's corrupt practices at the time, which ignoring Latino faculty and staff at the technical college has become a standard practice, which continues today, and has reached the MATC president's office and the Board.

As a response to Gomez's resignation in 2023, the MATC administration offered her the position as dean of community education and strategic engagement since December of 2024, and currently is also in charge of the MATC Education Center at Walker’s Square in the Southside of Milwaukee.

According to a large consensus by multi-sections of the community in the metropolitan Milwaukee area today, it seems that the community has lost confidence in President Dr. Cruz's ability to lead with fairness and compassion. To many, his continued leadership at MATC represents a barrier wall to healing, progress, transparency and trust. Therefore, a call for his resignation or removal, so that MATC can begin the process of genuine recovery and reconciliation continues to echo across Milwaukee.

A protest will take place on Tuesday, October 28, 2025 at the Northwest corner of S. 6 Street and W. State Street outside of MATC, 700 W. State Street at 3:30 p.m. and during the scheduled 4:00 p.m. Board meeting at Room M210.

36-year-old Rachel L. Amell Sentenced To 6 Years In Prison For Attempting To Protect Her 4-year-old Child From An Abusive Father In Waukesha County

Amell claimed she was attempting to protect her 4-year-old child from an abusive father in Wisconsin, but she was charged in Waukesha County with interfering with custody beyond visitation, and was convicted, then sentenced to 6 years in prison.

By H. Nelson Goodson
Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

October 21, 2025

Waukesha, Wisconsin - On October 2, 2025, Rachel L. Amell, 36, was sentenced to 6 years in prison, with 3 years in confinement and 3 years supervision for one felony count for interfering with custody beyond visitation, according to Waukesha County Court records.

Amell hasn't released any information, if she will be appealing her conviction.

Amell was convicted on June 3, but she claimed that she was just attempting to protect her 4-year-old child from an abusive father. In her X account (formerly Twitter), she posted on July 22, 2024 that she found her son alone on July 2, 2024 at his father's residence. (HNNUSA article link: http://hispanicnewsnetwork.blogspot.com/2024/08/34-year-old-rachel-amell-from-kentucky.html)

In August 2024, Amell contacted Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) and compared her plight similar to the Julie Valadez case in Waukesha County. Amell said, that what she has experienced in Wisconsin (Waukesha County Family court) is corruption and collusion to violate her Constitutional rights as a mother, and she claims that her case is similar to the ongoing Julie Valadez v. Ricardo Valadez divorce case in Waukesha County, which Julie was the first to publicly expose the corruption and collusion by Waukesha County Family Court Judges Michael J. Aprahamian and Ralph M. Ramirez who were both forced from further presiding over the Valadez divorce case due to multiple erroneous decisions and not abiding by state laws to protect a domestic abuse spouse and her children (Wisconsin State of Appeals Court rulings in the Valadez divorce case). In this case, Julie Valadez was charged with two felony charges for interfering with the custody of another, and is currently residing in Canada, seeking refugee status. Julie's 4 children were illegally placed with the abusive father by both Judges Aprahamian and Ramirez, Judge Jennifer R. Dorow, is now presiding over Julie's case.

On July 18, 2024, Amell posted on her FB account, I deeply resonate with this story. One of the many reasons I left my ex-boyfriend, with whom I share a 4-year-old child, was his negligence and recklessness with my children. He would spend countless hours on video games, neglecting their needs. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. Recently, my son was left home alone, with the car garage doors wide open, and I discovered him in that situation. Despite this and many other instances of negligence, the court still continues to grant my ex-boyfriend full temporary custody of our child. To which, they have done illegally, as I have an Order on Stipulation which states that I have sole legal and sole physical custody of our child, and the right to move out of the state of Wisconsin without my ex boyfriend's approval. I left an unsafe relationship to protect my children, but now the court's decision has placed my son in danger. If anything happens to my son, I hold Waukesha County, in Wisconsin fully responsible.

On Sunday, Jacob Allen Trzebiatowski, 30, contacted HNNUSA and wrote, "I thought you all should be aware that Rachel Amell was tried by jury and convicted." He claimed that Amell had made false claims in the HNNUSA article, but he never attempted to challenge her claims due to the ongoing criminal case against Amell.

So far, in his Facebook messenger massage to HNNUSA, Trzebiatowski didn't explained what false claims Amell had published in her social media accounts and had told HNNUSA in regards to her experience with the alleged corrupt Waukesha County family court system. Which, the Julie Valadez divorce case in Waukesha County had exposed to be one of the most corrupt family court systems in the state. The Waukesha County family court has had a history of not following state laws and Court of Appeals rulings in order to protect children in such cases where alleged abusive fathers are granted custody of children.

Update: On Thursday, October 23, 2025, Trzebiatowski in response to his side of the story told HNNUSA by messenger, "Your article simply says abuse, nothing specific. I had only taken her court because her oldest daughter told me to. Long story short, she was moving to Connecticut to be with someone she met online, and was leaving her kids (including my son) alone in waukesha while she took trips to Connecticut. Waukesha issued temporary orders that my son would not leave Wisconsin. She disobeyed the orders, taking him from my home while I was sleeping. I overslept a supervised visit she had. I never once tried to blame anyone for my fault in that matter. There are several other details that are public knowledge at this point, as anyone in Wisconsin is able to get court transcripts for her criminal trial and the custody matter. I'd recommend reading through those to get an unbiased, factual explanation of what happened. In my opinion, Ms Amell used your network, fabricated things to bring similarity to the Valadez case, and made a mockery of Hispanic heritage knowing that her side would be taken without question. Her name used to be Ramirez, which she changed to Amell to hide criminal records and hide her race. The criminal charge has her listed as Caucasian. It's a very messy situation with anything revolving Rachel and in my opinion, this story won't do your network any good. Hopefully you see the same thing after turning over enough stones for the facts she's hidden from you."

Coalition Composed Of 14 Orgs Demand For MATC President Dr. Anthony Cruz To Reinstate The Multicultural Affairs Office Services And Its 4 Member Staff That Were Terminated Without Just Cause In Mid-August 2025

Coalition members representing 14 local organizations submitted letter to MATC President Dr. Cruz and the MATC Board of Trustees demanding that the Multicultural Affairs Office and 4 student services specialists that were terminated in mid-August 2025 be reinstated with back wages and benefits.

October 20, 2025

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Monday, members of the Coalition to Reclaim MATC (CRMATC), which is currently composed of 14 organizations and local educational activists representing the Hispanic, Black, Asian and Native-American communities submitted a letter to the Milwaukee Area Technical College President Dr.

Recently, a member of the Native-American community expressed that tribal discussions are ongoing in the state whether Native-American students should not be recommended to attend MATC, since Dr. Cruz eliminated the student services specialist for the Native-American students.

Now, the Hispanic, Black and Asian communities are alos contemplating whether to follow the Native-American ongoing discussions not to recommend students to attend MATC due to its alleged discriminatory act to eliminate the Multicultural Affairs Office student services in order to comply with Trump's elimination of all Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) programs at the college. Trump has threatened to withhold federal funding from colleges and universities, if they don't comply.

Three federal courts including an Appeals court has ruled, that portions of Trump's executive order to eliminate DEI programs are deemed as unconstitutional due to infringement of teachers (instructors) free speech in classrooms regarding diversity topics, and that Trump, including the U.S. Department of Education can not withhold federal funding, if colleges and universities don't comply with Trump's elimination of DEI. The federal lawsuits filed challenging Trump's elimination of DEI programs are ongoing.

The members of the Coalition to Reclaim MATC are:

• Milwaukee Area Labor Council

• Wisconsin Indian Education Association

• Milwaukee Teachers Education Association

• Voces de la Frontera

• Shee Yee Community of Milwaukee Inc

Members of the Coalition to Reclaim MATC and activists from the Milwaukee metro communities will attend the MATC Board of Trustees meeting on Tuesday, October 28, at 4:00 p.m., room M210, 700 W. State St., Milwaukee, Wisconsin

12-year-old Isabella Galvin Charged With 2nd-degree Threatening To Kill Fellow Students At Palatka Junior-Senior High School In Florida

Galvin was taken into custody in connection with a hand written notebook threatening to kill fellow students whose names appeared in the book.

Hispanic News Network U.S.A.

October 20, 2025

Palatka, Florida - On Friday, the Putnam County Sheriff's Department reported in a press release that deputies arrested Isabella Galvin, 12, at Palatka Junior-Senior High School after a notebook containing names of students along with written threats to harm them was found in a girl's bathroom at school.

The Putnam County  Sheriff's Office didn't release a motive why Galvin was threatening to kill her fellow students, but in most cases, a victim of constant school bullying, and the alleged failure of school administrators to prevent further bullying resorts to threats or acts of violence against those who bully the victim. In this case, a motive has not been made public by local authorities or school administrators.

Inside the notebook was a statement indicating that it belonged to Galvin. When asked, Galvin told deputies the notebook belonged to her.

Galvin was arrested for a written threat to kill, a second-degree felony in Florida. She was taken to the Putnam County Sheriff's Office, booked for a criminal charge and transferred to a Department of Juvenile Justice facility.

Under Florida state statutes, the name of a juvenile and publication of a photo is allowed, if the crime is such that an adult would be charged with a felony. The sheriff's office reserves the right to release this information when there is a threat to students and schools, as parents and the public have a right to know.

As a precaution, the school contacted all parents and guardians whose students were listed in the notebook.

The Palatka Junior-Senior High School has has a history of students making threats, on April 25, 2025, the Putnam County Sheriff's Office arrested Josiah Alston, 14, a suspended student for sending an email to a school administrator, which the email was registered to another student, threatening to shoot up the school.

Alston was charged with written threat to kill, a second-degree felony in Florida.

29-year-old Lauren Spors Facing Homicide Charge For Beating Her Mother, Carrie Zettel, 64, To Death With A Stone In The Southside Of Milwaukee

Spors was booked at the Milwaukee County jail and charged with 1st-degree intentional homicide for beating her 64-year-old mother to death with a rock.

October 14, 2025

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, Lauren Spors, 29, was booked at the Milwaukee County jail and charged with 1st-degree intentional homicide for beating her mother, Carrie Zettel, 64, to death with a stone in her back yard.

If convicted, spors is facing life in prison without the possibility of parole.

On Sunday, October 12, 2025, around 2:04 p.m. Milwaukee police found Zettel deceased in her back yard at the 2200 block of W. Ramsey. Zettel had called police earlier that Spors was at her property and was trying to get inside her house.

Spors has a history of mental illness, that involved prior incidents with her parents, leading to a restraining order in 2014, which police were later involved when Spors violated the order four times. Charges for violating the restraining order were filed against Spors, but the court judge found her incompetent to stand trial in the cases, and was referred to a mental facillty for treatment.

It's not clear why Spors went to her mother's house on Sunday, and repeatedly pounded in the windows and door, and began to threaten her.

The police homicide investigation indicated that Spors continuously struck Zettel in the head with a stone (rock). Zettel died from blunt force trauma to the head, according to a police press release.

A large portion of the Zettel's skull was missing, according to the criminal complaint.

The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office pronounced Zettel deceased at 2:33 p.m. on Sunday at the scene.

Police say, Spors was taken into custody at the scene.

The police report indicates that Zettel had called a neighbor around 3:45 a.m  before she was killed by Spors. Zettel told her neighbor that Spors was attempting to break into her house.

According to the Milwaukee police log calls, police responded around 3:27 a.m. to the 2200 block of W. Ramsey to a call for entry building or structure. They found Spors hiding under a tarp in Zettel's property, but fled the scene. Then another call to police was made at 2:04 p.m., and police responded Zettel's house to investigate a call for a subject with a weapon. When police arrived at Zettel's home, they found Zettel's body in the back yard, and located Spors in the property who had blood on her clothing, and she was taken into custody.

Help Me/Ayúdenme Screams Can Be Heard By Immigrants Forcibly Arrested By USICE, If You Have No Empaty, You Have Lost Your Humanity

"Ayúdenme/Help Me" Screams Can Be Heard In Neighborhoods By Immigrant Victims Being Forcibly And Illegally Arrested By MAGA Gestapo USICE, Which Echoes Throughout Our Nation, If You Have Empaty For Those Cries, Then You Have Lost Your Humanity.

ILL: On Tuesday, October 8, 2025, federal Judge Cummings ruled that MAGA Gestapo USICE arrested for the last 4-months based on warrantless and without just cause were illegal.

Another federal judge on Thursday, October 9, 2025, is expected to grant a TRO to prevent USICE from unjustly attacking and assaulting peaceful protesters without probable cause.

It's time to stop all illegal acts by USICE without impunity and sanctioned by the USDOJ, USDHS and Trump including the majority of MAGAs in the U.S. Congress.

I'm calling for everyone that has seen the injustices committed by USICE and federal partners under Trump orders to help me (ayúdenme) stop those elicit acts once and for all and protect our U.S. Constitutional rights and due process.

I'm asking for everyone fighting to protect our Constitutional rights to stop spending your hard earned dollars at Make Amerikkka Great Again (MAGA) businesses owned by Trump supporters and the MAGA oligarchy.

The local and national boycott should start tomorrow and continue until the U.S. Congress and Trump approves a comprehensive immigration reform bill with a pathway to citizenship.

If Americans boycotted ABC and its affiliates after Jimmy Kimmel was indefinitely suspended for exercising free speech, and caused more than $1.7B loss for the network, until Kimmel was brought back on the air, then we as Americans can also influence change as well in order to stop all the illegal acts practiced by USICE, USDOJ, USDHS and Trump.

Let's do these for the prosperity of our nation, and unity in numbers, we can make a difference.

Power to the people! Resistance equals accountability, join me in this movement to unite our diverse nation land of immigrants.

Much respect for all who have stepped up to resist the elicit practices by USICE and the Trump administration.

Owner Of Lola's Tacos And Tequila In Gurnee Mills Exposed For Liking Social Posts Of 400 Texas National Guard Deployed To Illinois To Assist USICE's Immigration Enforcement Operations

Apparently, some members of the community that dine at the Lola's Tacos And Tequila restaurant in Gurnee Mills are not to happy to see Khayat, the owner posting likes in social media posts (Facebook) showing that 400 Texas National Guard have been deployed to Illinois to assist USICE on its immigration enforcement operations, which a majority are allegedly illegal, and ignore federal laws and due process, including not abiding by the U.S. Constitution.

Gurnee Mills, Illinois - On Tuesday, Hispanic News Network U.S.A. (HNNUSA) received information that linked Nicole Khayat, the owner of the Lola's Tacos and Tequila restaurant in Gurnee Mills, and president of Khayat Enterprises posting likes in multiple posts in the Chicago Crimechasers News FB page that showed 400 MAGA Texas National Guardsmen have been deployed to Illinois by Trump in order to assist MAGA U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (USICE) in immigration enforcement operations in Chicago, Waukegan, Gurnee Mills and other adjacent suburbs and cities.

One of those individuals that provided the information to HNNUSA on Tuesday wrote, "When local restaurant owner benefits off the Hispanic culture, BUT also liking posts supporting the national guard coming to support ICE in our
community. ldk, it doesn't sit right with me."

Most likely it wouldn't sit right with many members of the Gurnee Mills community as well, since Khayat makes a living from operating a Mexican style of restaurant, but allegedly seems to like that hundreds of Texas National Guardsmen from a Red MAGA state, which most likely is infiltrated by MAGAs, supremacists and White Nationalists who will follow Trump to the letter as he is waging a domestic terrorist war against Blue states and cities that didn't vote for him and rejected him in 2020.

It doesn't become profitable to support the deployment of the MAGA National Guard from Texas to Illinois, especially when a business owner of a restaurant makes a living from the very same immigrant community that Trump wants to deport.

Any individual has a right to like or dislike social media posts, if they desire to do so, but it's not to smart to like posts that can come back to hunt you, especially when it effects the same community you are trying to cater too.

Waukegan, Illinois - On October 6, 2025, a 23-year-old Diana Fajardo who is a U.S. citizen was taken into custody by City Hall and the police department while driving her vehicle with a Mexican flag on the hood in Waukegan, which Waukegan Mayor Sam Cunningham witnessed the arrest and abuse by a MAGA Gestapo USICE agent wearing a red shirt in Waukegan. The 23-year-old woman arrested was allegedly accused of following USICE and impeding an active investigation by agents. (Video link: https://youtube.com/shorts/g8L7ZS7M5SA)

The same MAGA USICE agent on October 3, 2025 arrested Chicago Alderperson Jessie Fuentes at the Humboldt Park Health facility in Chicago. A video posted in Ald. Fuentes Facebook account shows the MAGA Gestapo USICE agent using excessive force on her for simply asking questions.

Ald. Fuentes was at the Humboldt Park Health facility inquiring about a man who suffered a broken leg by USICE agents and was seeking aid at the health facility. Fuentes had asked both USICE agents, if they had a judicial warrant to arrest the injured man getting treatment at the health facility.

Ald. Fuentes released the following statement, "Federal ICE agents are terrorizing our communities, storming businesses, gassing civilians, and instilling fear where families should feel safe. Alongside our rapid responders, I have been standing on the frontlines, legally demanding judicial warrants and defending our neighbors. In return, we have been met with militant force, violence, and intimidation."

"But let me be clear: WE KEEP US SAFE. No amount of tear gas or militarized presence will break the bond of community care", stated Ald. Fuentes.

The two incidents that were video recorded shows that this unidentified USICE agent likes to use excessive force to abuse Hispanic women.

One good thing about this abuser of women, he doesn't cover his face during immigration enforcement operations.

300 MATC Part-Time Instructors Win Back-Pay After HR Scandal Rocks Milwaukee Area Technical College

Back-pay for at least 300 part-time faculty will be compensated by MATC.

Hispanic News Network U.S.A.
October 1, 2025

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - In a stunning reversal, more than 300 part-time instructors at Milwaukee Area Technical College (MATC) will receive long-withheld back-pay after the college's Human Resources (HR) department quietly reduced hourly wages without notifying affected employees this past Summer of 2025.

The bombshell was confirmed in an official Local AFT 212 union newsletter, which informed faculty that the college has admitted to underpaying hundreds of instructors and will soon issue compensation for the difference.

Union Victory: Back-Pay Coming After Hidden Wage Cuts

According to the newsletter, MATC's administration agreed to repay all affected part-time faculty who taught during the Summer 2025 term under the college's new Progression and Pay system. Many of these instructors, which some were newly hired told their union leadership that they were never told by HR that their hourly rates would be slashed.

Local 212 confirmed:

"The College will be paying back pay to make up for the difference in the summer hourly pay rate versus spring rates,"
the union wrote.

"The administration has committed to eliminating the summer pay reduction entirely by Summer 2026," according to the union.

But there's a catch: instructors still under the older "legacy" system will continue facing summer pay cuts—estimated between 7.23% and 7.43%, a policy Local 212 has long called discriminatory.

Inside the HR Controversy:

The pay issue exploded in June 2025 when the union demanded an independent investigation into Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Laquitha "Elle" Bonds-Jones, who allegedly altered official documents in order to justify the pay reductions without approval from MATC President Dr. Anthony Cruz or the Board of Trustees.

Union leaders claim that after faculty discovered the discrepancies and began filing complaints, HR staff restricted access to internal policy documents and locked key files on the college's internal myMATC portal.

Local 212 President Lisa Conley accused HR of obstructing transparency:

"Human Resources has taken down access to compensation policy documents and removed document histories,"

"This matter affects no fewer than 300 part-time faculty. The department cannot investigate allegations of its own misconduct," Conley wrote.

Escalation at the Top:

At a tense September 15, 2025 meeting between Dr. Cruz, Bonds-Jones, and union leaders, Bonds-Jones allegedly tried to shift blame to the union's Vice President for Part-Time Faculty, claiming she was responsible for document alterations.

Union officials denounced the accusation as "baseless deflection," pointing to evidence they say proves the modifications originated within the HR department during May and June 2025.

Demand for Accountability:

Local 212 continues to press for a third-party forensic investigation, calling for all HR records, electronic logs, and archived documents to be secured and preserved to prevent further tampering.

The union's message is clear:

"MATC's administration owes its part-time faculty transparency, respect, and restitution," said Conley. "This back-pay is only the beginning."

The Bottom Line:

The scandal exposes serious cracks in MATC's payroll oversight and raises new questions about accountability, ethics, and leadership within one of Wisconsin's largest public technical colleges in Milwaukee.

For hundreds of part-time instructors, the long-awaited back-pay is both a financial victory and a warning, that vigilance and collective action through Local AFT Union 212 remain essential to protecting union workers from institutional abuse.

So far, Dr. Cruz nor the MATC Board of Trustees have not announced publicly, if they will actually authorize a third party internal investigation into the alleged elicit acts by the HR administration. The HR can not investigate itself, according to the MATC union.

Also, Dr. Cruz and the Board have continously failed to address other internal issues, hostile work environment,  harassment, retaliation against employees who have complained about the administration practices  of discrimination and retribution plaguing MATC, since Dr. Cruz was hired.

Cruz has come under fire for eliminating the Multicultural Affairs Office and firing for student services specialists in August, by students, faculty, employees and members from four ethnic communities involving the Hispanic/Latino, Asian, Black and Native-Americans who have lost confidence in Dr. Cruz, despite his Investiture by the Board in September.

Another example of retaliation and discrimination practices at MATC, Jennifer Wayd who applied over 60 times for different job positions in her 13 years at MATC with no success, and in 2025 was finally given a full-time Librarian position, but was then fired, and her last day on the job was September 30th.

In an email sent to Dr. Cruz on September 30th by Carlos Aranda, a MATC Counselor, he wrote, Today marks Jennifer Wayd's final day at Milwaukee Area Technical College. Jennifer was previously offered a full-time LTE Librarian position, which has now concluded. Regrettably, rather than being reinstated to her former role, the Human Resources department chose to proceed with her termination.

Jennifer Wayd who has worked at MATC for 13 years, told the Board in December 2024 that she has applied at least 60 times for promotional opportunities at MATC during her career at the technical college, but was unsuccessful in getting promoted claiming ongoing discrimination employment practices at MATC. (Video of the December 17, 2024 during Board of Trustees meeting, Wayd testimony at minute 17:20 at link: https://youtu.be/ed93-NODo8M)

Wayd in an email wrote, The unhealthy culture at Milwaukee Area Technical College is significantly affecting the mental health and well-being of many employees. It raises an important question: who is being held accountable for addressing this issue?

Lastly, in the October 2024 Board of Trustees public meeting comment session, HNNUSA learned that the MATC HR had hired a non-bilingual instructor to teach a bilingual Economics course at MATC, which the course was advertised as a bilingual Spanish class. It was also learned that non-bilingual instructors were also assigned to teach two other courses as well, which included Sociology and Psychology that were advertised as bilingual courses that actually setup the students for failure in the bilingual courses. Jackson was taken into custody for the Torres homicide in June 2025, according to Milwaukee County court records.

By H. Nelson Goodson

October 1, 2025

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, Christian Jackson, 31, appeared at a Milwaukee County court for an initial appearance to face one felony count for 1st-degree reckless homicide and use of a dangerous weapon for the June 4, 2025 homicide of Vincent Torres, 45, in the Southside of Milwaukee. Torres, who was originally from Dallas, Texas died from a fatal gunshot wound to the chest at the scene.
