Milwaukee, WI - The Milwaukee Fire and Police Commission members scheduled to review police Standard Operating Procedure 130 ( https://bit.ly/2kXkXAp ) canceled a public hearing on Thursday, as members of Voces de la Frontera and allies held a protest and rally against the Milwaukee Police collaboration with the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), which triggered a backlash from the Latino community when on Monday, Jose Alejandro De la Cruz-Espinosa, 38, was illegally detained by rogue ICE agents and briefly arrested for an alleged probation violation in the 2100 block of S. 5th St., which at the time police arrived when flagged by an ICE agent at the scene had no such warrant issued.
No information has been released by the Wisconsin Department of Corrections about what led to the probation violation at the scene on Monday.
City of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett has asked for an investigation by the Fire and Police Commission including Chief Alfonso Morales regarding De la Cruz's brief arrest by police from District 2.
According to De la Cruz family video footage that was released, a police officer reached inside the vehicle (truck) where De la Cruz and his family (wife and three daughters) were and unlocked the doors without authorization and forced him out of the vehicle and then turn him over to ICE agents as the family video recorded the incident.
De la Cruz-Espinosa was transferred to the Dodge County jail by ICE to await deportation proceedings in the case, according to his wife.
