Magaña family members from Marinette County get federal prison sentences for growing several thousand plants of Marijuana.

Marinette County, WI - On Monday, three members of the Magaña family were sentenced to federal prison for growing more than two thousand plants at several of their properties in Marinette County. U.S. District Judge William C. Greisbach of the Eastern District of Wisconsin sentenced Javier Magaña, 51, to five years in prison, Marco Magaña, 38, got four years and Maria Hilda Magaña-Mendoza received three years in prison.
Last July, Marinette law enforcement authorities and federal authorities raided two of the Magaña properties and confiscated more than two thousand plants of marijuana. One of the Magaña's properties was located in the town of Athelstane, police confiscated more than one thousand plants and at another property in Middle Inlet, more than one thousand plants were also recovered.
A tip by several people who came upon the plants alerted authorities in May and after several months of surveillance, authorities raided both properties.
Brian Magaña, 19, who was sentenced to time serve, admitted to feds that the properties were bought by the family to grow marijuana plants. Manuel Mendoza, 45, was sentenced earlier in the month to four years and two months in the pot case.
The defendants were facing life in prison and up to $100,000 in fines, according to court records.
