Milwaukee - On Tuesday, a supporter or supporters of accused killer Eduardo Ivañez, 17, aka, "Smokey or Lalo" created a "Free Smokey" Facebook page to try and generate support for Ivañez. So far, the Smokey Facebook page has 30 likes, which has been condemn by those who have come across or been told about it on the Internet. The followers would like for Ivañez to be freed, despite killing a 15-year-old girl after having sex with her.
Ivañez has been charged with two felony counts of first-degree intentional homicide and hiding a corpse for the April 13, cold blooded and brutal murder of Stephanie Romero, 15, at 2512 W. Rogers St.
Ivañez, an alleged gang member confessed that he had sex with Romero then strangled her until she became unresponsive and afterwards stabbed her while she was still alive inside a vacant house.
Bail for Ivañez was set at $500,000 and if convicted, Ivañez is facing life in prison without parole and an additional 15 years.
The criminal complaint states, Ivañez and Romero went to the house to drink and have sex. Once inside the house, she refused Ivañez sexual advances, which triggered the deadly sexual assault on Romero.
On April 13, an accomplice and two relatives of Ivañez later showed up at the vacant house, which was used by teenagers to smoke marijuana. They asked Ivañez what had happened after noticing Romero on the floor bleeding from her face. Ivañez told them that Romero began to yell and scream at him and wouldn't stop. He then kicked and stomped Romero on the face and began to stab her several times in front of the teens. Ivañez and another suspect then dragged Romero's body to the bathroom.
Ivañez then noticed that Romero was still alive. He grabbed a knife again and then stabbed Romero in the chest, neck and left eye.
Ivañez and the suspects left the house and took some items, including Romero's jewelry and cellphone. Two days later, Ivañez who lived with his sister several houses from where Romero was killed decided to return to the house and moved Romero's body to an upstairs crawl space in the vacant house with the help of an accomplice. Apparently, Ivañez was showing off Romero's body and the homicide he had committed to other teenagers before Romero's body was found a week later by a different group of teenagers who told their school principal about the body. The principal notified police.
Before the body was found, one of the suspects with Ivañez began to caress Romero's breasts because he became bored and Ivañez thought about having intercourse with Romero's body, according to the complaint.
Two juvenile suspects involved in Romero's death were referred to the juvenile court system for possible charges and a third suspect was released because the teenager left the vacant house and didn't participate in moving or hiding Romero's body, according to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office.

In another Facebook (FB) page "RIP Stephanie Romero" that was created, generated 290 likes. The RIP for Romero page drew criticism by those FB users who have posted comments on the controversial page. It has Ivañez booking mugshot on it, but says RIP Stephanie Romero.
Some of the users of the page show support for Ivañez, others for the victim and the rest criticize the page for creating division among the young generation of Hispanics in the south side of Milwaukee. Some female and male FB users have posted comments with threats of meeting up on the street and knocking each others teeth out for posting their opinion on the page. Other users just cuz at each other in a FB page that seemed to have been created to do some venting, ranting, shout out and to come into grips of what had actually happened at the isolated vacant house where Romero lost her life in an untimely horrific manner.
Most of the comments can be attributed to street lingo or gang mentality slang used on the streets of Milwaukee. As young Hispanics in this case, one thing for sure, it seems at times of death, grief and loss of a relative or dear friend, respect and family moral values tend to escape us. It's only human nature to do so, but on the long run, people through time do overcome their emotions and do become better persons by their own life experiences, we hope.
Despite the alleged Ivañez confession, a person is considered innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. The Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office and the Milwaukee Police Department investigators are confident that they can prosecute Ivañez for the murder of Romero. A Milwaukee County judge has found that there is enough probable cause and evidence to proceed with the Romero homicide case against Ivañez.
