Milwaukee, Wisconsin - On Tuesday, Linwood Craine, 41, was criminally charged with one felony count of 1st-degree intentional homicide, and one felony count for a convicted felon possession of a firearm in connection with the July 25, 2025 fatal shooting of Ennis Brownlee, 55, at the 600 block of W. Hayes Avenue in the Southside of Milwaukee.
Craine appeared in an initial court hearing on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.
Police reported first reported that Brownlee was 68, then corrected to 67, but his actual age was 55.
If convicted, Craine is facing up to life in prison without the possibility of parole for 1st-degree intentional homicide, and up to 10 years in prison and up to $25,000 in fines, or both for possession of firearm by a convicted felon.
Craine is being held at the Milwaukee County jail on a $150,000 cash bail, but has a hold from the Wisconsin Department of Corrections.
According to the criminal complaint, video surveillance footage recovered by police in the area showed both Craine and Brownlee talking to a group of individuals before Craine shot Brownlee.
The video showed Craine fatally shooting Brownlee in an argument. Brownlee died at the scene from a gunshot to the neck, according to the Milwaukee County Medical Examiner's Office (MCMEO). The MCMEO pronounced Brownlee deceased at 1:55 p.m. at the scene, on July 25th and ruled it a homicide.
Witnesses also told police that they saw both Craine and Brownlee arguing and when Brownlee got close to Craine, the suspect pulled out a handgun and fatally shot Brownlee in the neck. Craine fled the area, but several hours later was later located at a garage on S. 5th Place after witnesses had told police where he lived.
