Carla Esparza Takes 1st UFC Strawweight Women's Championship Title

Esparza became the first to be named as the World UFC Women's Strawweight Champion.

Las Vegas, Nevada - On Friday, early on the third round Carla Esparza, 27, was able to apply a chokehold on Rose Namajunas, 22, forcing her to tap for submission. Esparza won the first UFC Women's Strawweight Championship Title in history and making her the undisputed World UFC Champion in the Strawweight class.
The fight was fierce in the first two rounds and Esparza was dominant and able to land most of her punches. She managed to take Namajunas down for a submission. Namajunas was considered the favorite to take the title, but Esparza pulled an upset.
