Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, the Milwaukee Election Commission rejected most of the claims and challenges made by Milwaukee Public School Board candidate Tatiana Joseph against both candidates Jaime Alvarado and Angel Sánchez. Joseph had alleged that Alvarado didn't live in the 6th District, but the Election Commission found that the address used by Alvarado on his nomination papers was valid.
Joseph hired a private detective to follow Alvarado for a month to determine where he actually lived in the school district, Joseph's attorney confirmed during Friday's Election Commission hearing. Alvarado was asked for proof of residence,  he took out his state license and confirmed his address to the Commission.
Alvarado submitted an estimated 1,000 signatures, which only 400 valid signatures were needed to get on the ballot. Alvarado will officially be on the ballot, according to the Election Commission.
Joseph also challenged Sánchez' nomination signatures and the Commission invalidated 32 signatures, leaving Sánchez with a mere 408 signatures and securing him a spot on the ballot for the Primary Election on February 19. The highest two vote getters will face off on the April 2, General Election.
Joseph apparently attempted to remove both Alvarado and Sánchez from the ballot to secure her victory as running unopposed, but her attempt failed, according to Sánchez.
Joseph could not be reached for comment. She posted on her Facebook page as a candidate for the MPS School Board that State Representative JoCasta Zamarripa has recently endorsed her candidacy.
Sánchez also could not be reached for comment on Tuesday. Alvarado on Tuesday said, that he wanted to focus on the issues affecting students. He stated "I choose to make this a positive school board race. It should be all about ideas, our students, and the community."
Alvarado is a real estate investor and a member of the League of United Latin American Citizens of Wisconsin (LULAC).
Joseph is a former teacher and recently graduated from UW-Milwaukee. She has a Doctorate and a Master's degree from UW-Milwaukee. Joseph is also an active member of the Southside Organizing Committee.
Sánchez is a former alderman for the 12th District and owns his construction company.
