Gonzalez, a well known attorney in Milwaukee passed away.
Chacon was one of the leaders of the August 27, 1970 University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee Chapman Hall Takeover that brought down the discriminatory barrier that kept Latinos from enrolling at the University, and worked as the Hispanic Liasion for former Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle (D).

Milwaukee, Wisconsin - Lutecia Gonzalez Quintanilla, 80, a former federal EEOC administrative judge and attorney passed away on July 20th. Gonzalez, a well known attorney is survived by Ernesto Chacon and six children.
In 2000, Gonzalez an advocate for civil rights sued the Milwaukee Police Department after she was arrested by a police officer when she stopped to help translate for a person who was detained on S. Cesar E. Chavez Drive and W. National Ave. The person was involved in an impromptu Mexican Independence Parade displaying a Mexican flag. Gonzalez won the lawsuit against the Milwaukee police officer for using excessive force. The officer later discovered she was a federal administrative judge.
That same year, Gonzalez was honored as UMOS Hispanic Woman of the Year.
