Black And Brown Lives Matter Joined To Seek Justice For Joel Acevedo's Homicide In Milwaukee

Members from the African-American and Latino/Hispanic communities seek Justice for Joel Acevedo who was held in a chokehold for at least 10 minutes by off-duty Milwaukee Police Officer Michael Mattioli at a house party hosted by the officer.  Mattioli has been charged with 1st-degree reckless homicide, two other suspects involved haven't been charged with Acevedo's death, which the Acevedo family is also seeking charges to be filed against the suspects.

Milwaukee, WI - On Monday, people gathered at the Milwaukee County Court House, Justice for Joel Acevedo rally seeking police accountabilty for the misconduct and murder of unarmed victims of color by police and law enforcement. (Link: https://bit.ly/3gWxMlG)

The parents of Acevedo have requested for police body camera video of the incident where off-duty Milwaukee Police Michael Mattioli killed Acevedo after applying a chokehold while two witnesses helped including one that just stood by as they waited for police response to Mattioli's residence in the Southside of Milwaukee.

The Acevedo family is calling for the two individuals that helped Mattioli to hold down Acevedo to be also face criminal charges for Acevedo's homicide as well.

According to Voces de la Frontera (VDLF), the Acevedo family has filed for a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request to acquire a 911 recording and the body camera footage to be released to the public. Off-duty Milwaukee Police Officer Mattioli "put Joel in a chokehold for at least 10 minutes," according to VDLF.

The protesters seeking Justice for Joel Acevedo marched from the courthouse  to Acevedo's mural at S. 6th St. and W. Greenfield Ave. in Milwaukee. Black and Brown Lives Matter speakers addressed those participating to seek Justice for Joel Acevedo and to pay tribute and remember the live of Acevedo. (Video link: https://bit.ly/30bBAZs)
