Jimmy González, Lead Singer And 8 Time Grammy Award Winner For The Tejano Style Grupo Mazz Hospitalized

González was scheduled to perform at the Outta Town Dance Hall when he became ill and was taken to a local hospital.

Mission, Texas - On Saturday, Jimmy González, 67, of Brownsville, the lead singer and 8 Time Grammy Award Winner for the Tejano style Grupo Mazz was hospitalized after coming severely ill and was having a hard time breathing due to a bad case of the flu, according to Super Tejano 102.1 FM radio. Super Tejano radio posted on their Facebook account that González had become ill and was hospitalized in Texas.
González was scheduled to perform on Saturday at the Outta Town Dance Hall in Mission at a pre-Super Bowl Dance. The management at the dance hall says that González became ill during the performance and could not perform as programmed. José Angel Villarreal, a local singer confirmed on his Facebook account as well that he was called in at the last minute to sing with the Grupo Mazz at the dance hall after González was hospitalized.
El Grupo Mazz has not released any information on the condition regarding González.
González from the Grupo Mazz has three of his sons in the group. Grupo Mazz is credited for modernizing the Tejano style of music.
