Milwaukee, WI - On Tuesday, people who gathered at Voces de la Frontera voted to have another march for a Day Without Latinos, Immigrants and Refugees on Monday, February 13, 2017, beginning at 11:00 a.m. from 1027 S. 5th St. in an attempt to prevent Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke Jr. from partnering with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) to designate sheriff deputies under 287g as immigration enforcement agents to enforce immigration laws in the County. Under 287g, Milwaukee County Sheriff deputies would be authorized to check the immigration legal status of individuals suspected of being in the country illegally during traffic stops and investigations.
U.S. President Donald Trump, aka, "Trumpnazi" has revamped the 287g ICE program including the Secure Communities Program (SCP), which ICE issued administrative detainers to hold suspects additional days in jail until ICE could check their legal status in the country. Sheriff Clarke confirmed last Friday that he would comply with Trumpnazi's act to allow state, county and local authorities to enforcement immigration laws under the 287g memorandum agreement with states. Governor Scott Walker (R) would have to consent on the partnership between law enforcement agencies willing to participate in the program with ICE.
A U.S. federal judge has ruled that administrative ICE detainers are not legal warrants to detain an individual. ICE would have to get a court issued warrant to legally hold undocumented suspects while processed at the Milwaukee County jail facility for violations.
City of Milwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn and the Racine Police Department hace both confirmed that they will not participate in Trumpnazi's revamped 287g program.
The 287g program and the SCP were deemed discriminatory programs, which were abused by law enforcement officers and illegally profiled people.

Update: The march route on February 13th will begin in front of the VDLF offices on S. 5th Street and W. Washington Street and will proceed northbound along S. 5th St., across the 6th Street viaduct (unofficially the Immigrant Crossing S. 6th Street Viaduct) to downtown Milwaukee to the Milwaukee County Court House (MCCH) and end at the MCCH Southside entrance area.
