Washington D.C. - On Thursday, U.S. Congressman Raúl M. Grijalva (D-AZ) will hold a Skype press conference to discuss the proposed Veteran Visa and Protection Act that will be introduced to grant legal residency with a path to U.S. Citizenship to eligible deported Veterans. According to the news release, Congressman Grijalva will be joined via Skype by Hector Barajas, a Veteran of the Army's 82nd Airborne Division who was deported after serving our nation in uniform. They will announce the proposed Veteran Visa and Protection Act, which would establish a Veteran visa program to permit deported Veterans to permanently return to the United States as a Lawful Permanent Resident. The bill would ensure eligibility for the existing naturalization process for military service and provide access to their military and Veteran benefits.
They will be joined by additional Members of Congress as well as by Jennie Pasquarella, Director of Immigrants' Rights for the ACLU of Southern California, which released last week Wednesday a report entitled "Discharged, Then Discarded," highlighting how Veterans who served as far back as the war in Vietnam were later deported over punitive offenses.

The press conference will take place Thursday, July 14th at 1:00 PM in Cannon 234.
