Cottonwood Police Officer Shot And One Suspect Killed At Arizona Wal-Mart

Nine alleged family members from Idaho and eight Cottonwood police officers, including a Wal-Mart employee involved in an altercation at a parking lot resulted with one officer wounded in a leg, one suspect fatally shot and another suspect shot in the abdomen.

Cottonwood, Arizona - The Arizona Department of Public Safety (ADPS) reported that Cottonwood Police Sargeant Jeremy Daniels, 31, was shot in a leg and seven other officers sustained minor injuries that included bruises and lacerations. Cottonwood police were called to a reported assault of a female Wal-Mart employee around 11:52 p.m. on Saturday. The employee was apparently assaulted during an altercation in the men's bathroom incident by two suspects. Several female members of the Gaver family including a minor went into the men's bathroom and the female Wal-Mart employee followed to investigate and she was shoved by one of the suspects.
When the officers arrived at the Wal-Mart parking lot in Cottonwood, a group of family members identified as Peter Gaver, 55, Ruth Gaver, 52, Jeremiah C. Gaver, 29, David Gaver, 28, Nathaniel Gaver, 27, and Enoch Gaver began to fight with officers. Several officers drew their weapons and were fired upon by the suspects. Sgt. Daniels was wounded in the leg, Enoch Gaver was fatally shot and David Gaver was shot in the abdomen. Seven members of the Gaver family including two juveniles ages 11 and 15 were taken into custody by police. The minors were placed under state juvenile protection services. All the suspects are related and were driving a camper with Idaho license plates. They were parked at the Wal-Mart parking lot for several days.
The family is known as a traveling Christian Band called the Matthew 24 Now or the Busking in the Son.
One Wal-Mart employee was reported with a sprained arm. The ADPS has taken over the investigation.
The Gaver family from Boise, Idaho is facing multiple charges and are expected in court on March 31. Bail for Jeremiah was set at $75K, for Peter at $25K, and for Nathaniel at $75K.
