Southside Business Video Surveillance Cameras Match Funding Announced By Milwaukee City Officials

A $250,000 matching fund from the Milwaukee Police Department and the city's Community Development Block Grant will help business owners in the South side corridors to install cameras as a crime prevention tool.

Milwaukee, WI - On Friday, Alderman Robert "Bob" Donovan from the 8th District along with Mayor Tom Barrett and Mikwaukee Police Chief Edward Flynn announced that a matching fund of $250,000 has been provided to help local South side business owners to install video surveillance cameras in business corridors. A matching fund of $150K was provided by Milwaukee's police asset forfeiture program from money confiscated from criminals and $100K from the city's Community Development Block Grant, according to a news release from the Milwaukee Police Department (MPD).

The matching funds will be administered by Safe and Sound Inc., business owners can apply and must pay $1,200 and a city matching fund will be granted totaling $2,400 for the cost of buying and installing the cameras. The cameras will be monitored by MPD.

The matching fund announcement was made at the Wild Flower Bakery at the 2800 block of W. Lincoln Ave. where an outdoor surveillance camera helped solved a crime in the area. Also present were Common Council Michael Murphy, Alderman Jose Perez and Katie Sanders from Safe and Sound.
