Gunman And 12 People Reported Killed At Navy Yard In D.C.

Federal agents have taken over the investiagtion of a massive killing spree by a gunman near the White House.

Washington, D.C. - On Monday, Aaron Alexis, 34, from N.Y. was killed in a gunfight with police at the Washington Navy Yard. The shooting began around 8:20 a.m. Police recovered an AR-15 assault rifle, a shotgun and  semiautomatic handgun at the crime scene. 
Alexis had recently began to work at the Navy Yard as a civilian contractor.
Twelve other people were reported killed in the mass shooting that involved Alexis. Police and federal agents are investigating whether other suspects were involved.
The U.S. Senate section was shut down just after 3:00 p.m. by the Senate Sergeant of Arms. The Senate had recessed by 2:00 p.m. and will be expected back on Tuesday. 
The killing spree occurred near the White House and Capitol Hill. Two police officers were reported seriously injured and had surgery. Eight other victims were reported in critical condition. They are expected to survive. 
Local police, military police including the FBI locked down the Naval Sea Systems Command Center where more than three thousand naval personal work including contractors who repair ships and submarines.
