Poaching In Wisconsin Blamed On Poverty

Poverty stricken population in the state resort to deer poaching to feed their own families.

New Miner, Wisconsin - During opening day for gun hunting season, hunters near the New Miner area in Juneau County admitted that illegal poaching rampant throughout the year by population stricken with poverty trying to feed their families. No public assistance by the Governor Scott Walker's administration available to families living in poverty, to the unemployed and those no longer collecting state unemployment insurance benefits.

Area property owners found multiple garbage plastic bags containing bones from 26 deers stripped of their meat and the discovery was reported to the area DNR Warden and authorities. 

A large portion of the people in Juneau County, especially those living in poverty stricken areas know that poaching is going on throughout the year to feed families and many know those families because they are either relatives or friends. But, no one is stepping up to expose the need to poach illegally to feed families.

Some hunters agreed that poaching to feed poverty stricken families in the area has been overlooked and no prosecutions have ever been imposed by authorities, according to several local hunters attending last Saturday's evening annual local church Hunters dinner in Nacedah. Should poverty stricken families continue to poach to feed their families in Wisconsin?
