Milwaukee - A 25-year-old suspect was taken into custody on Friday around 1:14 p.m. in the south side after eluding police the day before when he struck an officer on W. Greenfield Ave. Police on Thursday spotted a suspicious vehicle that was doubled parked and when they tried to speak with the driver, he drove away.
Around 10:35 p.m., the officers spotted the driver again and when a 29-year-old officer approached the vehicle from the front to question the suspect, the driver accelerated striking the officer. The suspect then fled the scene at a high rate of speed, according to the Milwaukee police Source website.
The injured officer assigned to the Second District police bicycle unit was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment and later released. He suffered a non-life-threatening injury and is recovering.
Off duty Officer Tommy Wilson from the Second District spotted the suspect on Friday afternoon and called for officers to arrest the 25-year-old suspect who was wanted for probation violation resulting from intimidation of a witness. The suspect has a history of drug charge violations and driving a vehicle without the owner's consent.
The suspect has not been identified by police. Charges are pending against the suspect.
