Isabela Province, Philippines - On Friday, Police Chief Jimmy Rivera from the Isabela Province in a press conference confirmed that the main shooter in the New Year's Day death of Councilman Reynaldo Dagsa, 35, had been arrested. Arnel Buenaflor was taken into custody late Thursday at a rooming house in the village of Aurora. Police were led to Buenaflor by his girlfriend, who police say had dropped her cell phone when the suspects boarded a bus out of Manila.
Buenaflor showed reporters the blue and red strip cap that he wore when Dagsa was killed. He was captured in a photo Dagsa had taken moments before being shot.
There were two gunmen, but Buenaflor confessed to shooting at least three times at Dagsa. The second shooter shot once at Dagsa from behind and missed.
Arlene Dagsa, the Caloocan Councilman's wife told authorities that her husband saw the suspects acting suspicious prior to being shot near their home. Dagsa had a .45 handgun on him and decided not to take it out for fear of injuring his family, according to Arlene.
On Sunday, Caloocan City Police Chief Jude Santos reported the arrest of Miguel Gonzales Pollon, of Barangay and an accomplice Rommel Oliva in Manila in connection with Dagsa's death.
Last Saturday, Dagsa was taking photos shortly after midnight New Year's Day, Saturday, January 1, outside his Maypajo residence driveway where his car was parked. While four family members, including his 10-year-old daughter Reynalyn, mother-in-law and wife posed for a picture next to the car, when Buenaflor came over, pointed a gun at Dagsa and shot at him multiple times.
Buenaflor was captured on the photo and family members released it to police. Buenaflor fatally fired a .45 Caliber handgun at Dagsa. He was shot in the right forearm, the bullet went through the chest and penetrated his heart. Dagsa was rushed to the Martínez Hospital where he later died.
