Assistant State Attorney General In Chihuahua Killed By Suspects in Ciudad Juarez

Ciudad Juárez, Chihuahua, Mexico - On Wednesday, Sandra Ivonne Salas García, 38, Assistant Attorney General from the state of Chihuahua in charge of internal affairs was attacked and killed by 10 gunmen. García's SUV was chased through the city streets in Juárez by numerous unknown suspects in two vehicles  until they were able to block her vehicle at the intersection of Francisco Villareal and Jilotepec Avenues.
The gunmen at about 12:30 a.m. fired an AK-47 at Garcia's SUV killing her and Omar Contreras, her bodyguard. The confrontation lasted at least five minutes, according to witnesses. Another bodyguard was wounded and taken to a local clinic.
García was investigating work being conducted by Ministry agents and several homicides of agents.
When attacked, García's bodyguards tried to repel the attack, but were overcome by gunfire. García went down to the floor of the SUV trying to cover herself and was fatally shot several times.
The state Attorney General's Office in Chihuahua continues to investigate the murder.
