Los Angeles, CA - On Friday, federal immigration authorities in California charged Mexican actress Fernanda Romero, 28, and Kent Ross, 28, with marriaged fraud. The criminal complaint filed on Thursday states, Romero paid Ross to marry her. Romero was born in the city of Mexico D.F., Mexico. Also facing charges is Michael Ball who arraigned the fake marriage.
Romero's ex-boyfriend Markus Klinko called Immigration and Customs Enforcement and turned in Romero after she broke up the relationship. Klinko was able to provide proof of the fake marriage between Romero and Ross to ICE.
They were married on June 12, 2005, but never lived together. Romero was seeking legal residency in the U.S., according to ICE.
Ball owns the Rock and Republic Jeans company, which Romero was modeling for when he arraigned the fake marriage, according to the criminal complaint.
Romero posted a $50,000 signature bond, turned in her passport, must stay in the country, and is being electronically monitored. Ross posted a $25,000 bond and remains free.
Romero and Ross are both facing up to almost two years in federal prison, if convicted. Romero is also facing deportation after serving her sentence.
